“I don't know. We all just dig music don't we? As corny as that sounds it's simple mathematics. And this week, in the moments before making this mix, I was suddenly infatuated with Freestyle--i.e. the primarily Neoyorquino and Italian party music mostly about love lost and heartbreak from the early 90's. There're sprinkles of all the multiethnic dance music and disco I'm perpetually geeking on too. I do always have the ill Freestyle classics on deck and they manage to find their way on the sets from time to time. We confirmed that Drake is just another misogynist, bullshit "Loverboy" and all that so I had to get my head into the proper music for channeling heavy emotions. I wrote this piece for another project where I talked about how life is just these moments in time; these escapes that we try to keep going for as long as possible before we get to moments of challenge, sadness, whatever. I'm definitely feeling emo I guess but, with that in mind, Freestyle seemed to be most apropos. It's better than fucking Drake.”
